HISTORY OF MDPS

The Mother of Divine Providence School was established in November 1987, barely two years after the first two Angelic Sisters, Mother Alessandra Sala and Sister Teresa Bianco, ASP came to the Philippines. However, the school was officially opened only in June 1988 to ninety young learners. Classes were held at the ground floor of the Sisters’ Convent. In 1990, the Grade One class was added with 61 students. The increasing number of students necessitated the Sisters to buy the land adjacent to the Convent for the construction of the three-storey building.

The construction was finished in 1991. On the same year, Grades two and three were added with eighty-three students. The same students made up the succeeding grade levels so that in the year 1995 the MDPS turned out its first batch of elementary graduates – 12 boys and 11 girls. The same year also marked the DECS’ recognition of MDPS as a complete elementary school.

The school year 1995-96 witnessed the graduation of the second batch of 56 graduates. It was also during this school year that the MDPS’ Board of Trustees approved the opening of the High School Department. The High School department opened the following School Year 1996-1997 with 34 students. In the year 2000, it had the first batch of graduates 6 boys and 21 girls. In the same year the High School department received the DECS recognition.

After five years of existence, the Board of Trustees, upon the recommendation of the Administrators, Faculty and PTA approved the admission of boys in the first year level in SY 2002- 2003.Thus, making MDPS High School Department coed.

MDPS SEAL

The school seal represents a mother clasping a child in her arms as she looks tenderly at him.

The mother represents the Blessed Virgin Mary and the child represents each one of us.

The child’s fingers confidently clasp those of Mary. This pose is interpreted as a symbol of the role of the Blessed Virgin Mary in our lives. From the infinite treasure of God, she is to provide good things to all those who implore her help. Thus, every student in the school is entrusted to the motherly care of Mary Mother of Divine Providence.
