ORATIO IMPERATA
In time of Civil Disturbance

We come before you, God of power and mercy,
as crisis of political leadership once again grips our country.
An alleged coup attempt by forces of destabilization
and the proclamation of a state of national emergency
cripple our democratic institutions
and sow uncertainty and fear in the hearts of citizens
Lord, banish both violence and falsehood from our midst.
Make us realize that violence is never an answer to crisis
and falsehood is never a foundation of a strong republic.
our Son has taught us that the truth will set us free.
Help our national leaders to seek the truth and live by the truth.
Give us the tranquil assurance of the truth.

We implore your guidance, God of justice and peace,
on those who enforce what the state of emergency provides.
Make them respect the constitutional rights of every citizen
And make us true patriots that protect within the bounds of law
our right to assemble freely,
our right to speak and write freely,
and our right to engage in critical dialogue with authority.
Lord, do not allow our human rights, dignity, and freedom
to be sacrificed on the false altar of national security
or to be trampled upon by ugly lust for power.
Your Son promised to give us true and lasting peace.
In your mercy deliver us from all civil disturbances
and grant us peace in our day. Amen

Our Lady of Guadalupe, pray for us.
St Lorenzo Ruiz, pray for us.
That in all things God may be glorified

(This prayer was composed by the CBCP Commission on Liturgy in view of the prevailing political crisis. During these difficult times, The CBCP President, Most Rev. Angel N. Lagdameo, DD., invites the faithful to recite this prayer after the Post-communion Prayer when celebrating the Eucharist or on appropriate occasions at the pastoral discretion of the local Ordinary).
