Charles Schine (Oliver Owen) and Lucinda Harris (Jennifer Aniston) meet on the commuter train.
It is a case of mutual attraction from the start. On their first date, a very violent gun-toting man crashes into their room, blackmails them through torture and the threat of revealing their affair to their families. Not content with the amounts he asked for and received twice, La Roche (Vincent Cassel) this time, demands a large sum in exchange for their lives and that of their families. As Charlie hands over the money he begins to suspect that the whole abduction and blackmail scheme must involve more people and a more intricate network behind it. Charlie is determined to find out and do something about it.
The suspense drama focuses on Charlie who—in missing to catch his scheduled commuter train ride, and taking the next one—is
plunged into a nightmare of events making his life go from bad to worse, when his life gets derailed. Some effort is need, not only to follow the twists and turns of the
happenings, but also to identify all the perpetrators and the victims, even among the main characters, except for the obvious ones.
This is a way of keeping the audience in suspense and enjoying it. The acting ability of Owen, Aniston and Cassel is evident in the roles they play.
The cruelty depicted in the threats and torture to make victims submissive carry some intensity.
The shooting, killing, blood and gore are depicted a number of times. The victim-turned-avenger gets to walk away free, his culpability does not appear to be clearly evaluated. He is, however, charged only for a related crime of embezzlement, for which he has to do community service. A degree of maturity is needed to view and understand the intent and content of the story.
