FORMATIONAL SET-UP

The set-up is called “Priest Responsible/Class Adviser for a Class”. This set-up does not require a prefect of discipline for the whole community. Instead, the whole community is divided into cells (which is composed of a class) and each cell in given a priest and an adviser who act as the journey companions for that particular cell/class.

There is also no spiritual director of the whole community. Each class is also given a particular spiritual director who journeys with the class from first year to fourth year.

This means that one priest and one class adviser takes care of a class and are responsible for the academic, social and disciplinary aspects of its members. Another priest also takes care of the spiritual needs of that same class.

This set-up gives seminarian an opportunity to have a personalized contact with a priest and a lay formator; helps the priest and the adviser maximize, in terms of quality, their individualized contact with each seminarian; and helps the seminarians see in a more positive way that discipline is part of formation.

  • “Class Priest-Responsible/Adviser” is then responsible of the following to his class
    • Self-integration of discipline.
      • The priest regulates the permission (except for the overnight permission) for outing.
      • He checks on the behavior of the seminarian regarding the different activities in the seminary.
    • Motivation and follow-up of studies.
      • The adviser/priest checks the behavior of the seminarian during classes and study periods.
      • The adviser monitors the academic performance of the seminarian.
    • Communicating and coordinating with the parents regarding the performance of the seminarians under his care.
