WALANG HIHINGI! WALANG TATANGAP!

A Voters' Education and Action Program

The elections scheduled this May 2007 have been considered as crucial and important in the life of the nation as a whole. The elections of 2004 had been perceived by the majority of the Filipinos as far from clean and honest. Yet, notwithstanding the "Hello Garci?" controversy, the unabated political killings and the distrust of the people against the government, the May 2007 elections are being awaited by the people.

The Parish of St. Fabian, Pope and Martyr, has embarked on a Christian Education Program on the peoples' involvement, rights and responsibility during elections. A Christian Voter's Call, a module to be given to be shared to the different barangays of the parish, has been prepared. It has four parts: The Introduction which deals about the social and economic conditions of the Philippines presented in one barangay, the Politics in the Philippines which presents the meaning of politics, how it has been practiced in the Philippines, effects of irresponsible voting and the qualities to be considered in choosing the candidates for political office, the Programs of Action concretized in the slogans: "Walang Hihingi! Walang Tatanggap!" and finally, a Discernment in Groups wherein the participants are made to analyze their communities, look for the qualities needed in the leaders to face these problems and make a decision on who to vote for and why.

The module will be given to the different barangay chapels starting this February. It will be given by the Parish Priest, Fr. Oliver E. Mendoza and assisted by the BEC Parish Coordinators.
