History

St. John's Cathedral School, was named after the Patron Saint of Dagupan City  St. John the Apostle and Evangelist, is owned by the Archdiocese of Lingayen-Dagupan. Rising to meet the demand for a  Catholic education in this area, the school is founded in 1957 by then Rev. Fr. Jesus J. Sison (former Bishop of Tarlac). It started to operate in June of the same year offering Kindergarten, Elementary and Secondary courses. It was originally a Catholic School for boys only.

In 1962, due to the decreasing demand for pre-school courses, the Kindergarten, was phased out. For the same reason, the elementary level was abolished in 1964. All the human as well as material resources available to the school became concentrated in the evolution and development of the secondary level.

The year 1965 saw a new development in history of the school. After serious considerations, it opened its portals to the girl students. An influx of girls immediately applied for admission and were consequently enrolled during that school year. However, with the desire of Fr. Raymund Bulosan Jr., the Director, to have a good foundation for secondary education and due to the renewed demand of parents around the area, the Kindergarten course had been re-opened in 1979-1980, followed by the opening of the Elementary Department (grades I - VI in the school year 1980-82). To this date, the school has maintained its co-educational status providing Christian education to both boys and girls.

Since then, the existence of St. John's (as the school is fondly and commonly referred to) has continuously grown what is today, a flourishing Catholic school in Dagupan City which endeavors to educate young souls through various programs of training: religious, intellectual, moral and physical - so that they may become men of character, efficient members of the Catholic Church and Christian family and principled leaders in a democratic society.

Such was an encompassing glow of this institution that up to the present time its promise to give its fullest and to perform better for the coming generations was concretized through different programs and tremendous accomplishments. Under the management of the former administrations and of Rev. Fr. Leo R. Macaraeg, the present Director, St. John's goes through a milestone of changes that captivates and inspire not only the students but even teachers as they make their fruitful stay. Proof of these changes are: the building of the new Audio-Visual room, Internet / Computer Laboratory, classrooms and other infrastructures, the increase of enrolment which also paved way to the increase of teachers in the elementary and secondary levels, and the existence of different organizations.

Through the years, St. John's Cathedral School has always been on its able stand to fulfill its noble mission - that of educating young men and women who are thirsting for precious knowledge and wisdom , and who are craving for the sweet wine of success... and behind these endless achievement of the prestigious St. John are the men of God who held the helm of administration: Click here to view the School Directors from 1957

Patron Saint

St. John is the youngest among the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ. He was called the BELOVED for he was the only apostle whom the Blessed Virgin Mary when Jesus said "Woman behold Your Son; Son behold Your mother"--one of the Last Words of Jesus conveying Mary as our Mother and being her Heavenly sons and daughters.

As one of the Four Evangelist, St. John proclaimed the existence of Jesus Christ as the Son of God, and has existed even before God's creation of the world. He also wrote of Christ being the Incarnate Word as he scribbled "In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the word was God." Being the Beloved, he, too, expounds on the Gospel of LOVE as the stressed Christ everlasting commandment "Love one another".
